The Tourbillon: A Masterpiece of Watchmaking Engineering

The tourbillon is a watchmaking complication invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet and patented in 1801. Its principle consists in placing the regulating organ — balance wheel, balance spring and escapement — inside a mobile carriage completing a full rotation, most often in one minute, in order to offset the effects of gravity on the accuracy of the watch.
