With the Master Hybris Inventiva Gyrotourbillon à Stratosphère, Jaeger-LeCoultre once again pushes the boundaries of Haute Horlogerie. A true technical masterpiece, this exceptional timepiece introduces a new line within the Maison: Hybris Inventiva, dedicated to the most advanced watchmaking innovations.
Powered by the Calibre 178, this limited-edition creation embodies a radical approach to precision, featuring a next-generation multi-axis tourbillon capable of compensating up to 98% of all possible positions.
Hybris Inventiva: a new vision of innovation
Long recognized as a pioneer in watchmaking innovation, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues its legacy with the launch of Hybris Inventiva, following the Hybris Mechanica and Hybris Artistica collections.
This new series introduces a distinctive philosophy: focusing on a single complication, elevated to its highest level of performance and sophistication. Each timepiece becomes a true horological laboratory, the result of years of research, development, and refinement.
Produced in highly limited editions, these creations represent the pinnacle of the Manufacture’s expertise and pave the way for future innovations.
A new-generation multi-axis tourbillon
At the heart of this creation lies a triple-axis Gyrotourbillon, a major evolution of the traditional tourbillon. Designed to counter the effects of gravity on precision, this revolutionary mechanism features:
- Three rotational axes (X, Y, Z)
- Three distinct speeds (20, 60 and 90 seconds)
- A cylindrical hairspring for perfectly concentric oscillation
- Ceramic ball bearings to reduce friction
This complex architecture allows the movement to compensate for nearly all positional variations, delivering exceptional precision unmatched among 4 Hz tourbillons.
Comprising 189 components and weighing only 0.78 grams, the tourbillon also represents a remarkable achievement in miniaturisation.
A sculptural work of art
Beyond its mechanical complexity, the Calibre 178 stands out for its extraordinary aesthetics. For the first time, the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares™ have been applied directly to the movement itself, transforming it into a true kinetic work of art.
Guilloché, enamelling, lacquering, anglage and mirror polishing are among the 16 decorative techniques used to enhance each component.
The dial reveals a striking architectural composition, structured around two off-centre rings and the Gyrotourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock. A translucent blue enamel finish adds depth and intensity to the overall design.
On the reverse, the sapphire caseback showcases the refined finishes, including bridges in grey gold decorated with Côtes de Genève and meticulously hand-finished details.
