For over twenty years, Roger Dubuis has placed the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur at the heart of its watchmaking identity. Since 2013, with the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table collection, each dial has become a storied scene, where micro-sculptures and different watchmaking layers have transformed the epic saga into a three-dimensional form. In 2026, the Excalibur Lady of the Lake opens a new chapter. Through its dedicated savoir-faire, the Maison shares the legend from a feminine perspective. A faithful interpretation of its vision: technical in execution, daring in aesthetics.
Viviane, the key figure in this epic saga
For this new interpretation, Roger Dubuis has turned its focus to Viviane, the powerful and mysterious Lady of the Lake. Viviane reigns over an underwater kingdom, hidden away in the Brocéliande forest. She moves between the visible and the invisible, seamlessly crossing from one world to the other. Merlin introduced her to his magic, yet Viviane surpasses him, proof of her independence and strength.
In the legend of King Arthur, the Lady of the Lake possesses great knowledge and strategically guides the destiny of the heroes. Under the waters of the lake, she guards the Excalibur sword, away from the world of men, only to make it appear, in both a political and symbolic gesture, when Arthur proves himself worthy. Another key figure in the legend is Lancelot, raised by Viviane in her kingdom and to whom he owes his chivalrous training.
Roger Dubuis opens a new chapter dedicated to Viviane with the creation of the Excalibur Lady of the Lake, a timepiece with a case in shades of Sovereign Grey - which reflects her chivalry and strategic mind.
A knightess in shades of grey
Through a Sovereign Grey dial symbolising armour, Roger Dubuis conveys Viviane’s courage, power, and independence. The interweaving of the materials and finishes reveals her tactical insight. The shades of grey evoke both her strength of character and the Excalibur sword, an indestructible weapon forged in the enchanted world.
On the dial, the multiple layers reveal the universal narrative. In the centre is a pure, iridescent heart of white mother-of-pearl, enclosed in gilded brass. The surrounding dark rhodium coated plate with a sunray finish brings depth to the dial. While at 6 o’clock, a small seconds counter, decorated with a snailed effect, brings balance. On a white-and-grey background, the hour and minute hands in rose gold, crafted like swords, mark the time.
At the outer edge, the two-sided flange accentuates the theatrical conception of the dial. Its dimensions highlight the time display whilst drawing the eye towards its mother-of-pearl heart. The snailed and sunray surfaces, with diamond-cut f inishes, bring a refined and contrasting aesthetic, reflecting Viviane’s diverse character. The three-dimensional indexes accentuate the volume of the flange. Their rose gold galvanic treatment stands out against the dark rhodium-plated background, with grey lacquer at the centre for a tone-on-tone effect.
A case in rose gold shaped like a jewel and set with diamonds
For this Excalibur Lady of the Lake, Roger Dubuis has designed a special 36mm case, shaped like a jewel in rose gold. Its design and finishes combine complexity and femininity. The frame incorporates a fitted ring that contributes to both the structure and aesthetics of the case. The polished angles contrast with the brushed satin-finished surfaces of the case, accentuating the luxurious quality of the rose gold.
On the side, the ring-like design of the crown resembles a jewel. A transparent lacquer applied over the polished Roger Dubuis logo creates an effect of transparency and depth.
This new Excalibur case is crowned by a fluted bezel, a signature of Roger Dubuis, which is set with 48 diamonds of exceptional clarity. The case continues naturally towards the strap with two polished lugs.
The Maison offers a Sovereign Grey alligator strap, with a pearled effect. Interchangeable, it has a rose gold pin buckle. The grey hue of the strap matches the main colour of the dial.
A mechanical heart
On the caseback, a transparent sapphire glass reveals the mechanical automatic calibre RD830 and its 183 components with high-end watchmaking finishes, which include the Côtes de Genève on the main plate, and the snailing effect, recognisable by its fine concentric striations. Roger Dubuis also worked on an open-worked oscillating weight in 22k gold. By choosing an automatic movement like the RD830, Roger Dubuis places mechanical audacity and legitimacy at the heart of its feminine timepieces.
With the Excalibur Lady of the Lake, Roger Dubuis presents a women’s perspective of the Arthurian legend, along with a 36mm jewelled case in rose gold. Inspired by Viviane, Lady of the Lake and guardian of the Excalibur sword, this watch illustrates one of the key facets of her personality. The shades of grey, like an armour, transmit her strength, courage, and chivalrous independence.
